Standard First Aid


Standard First Aid is the most commonly required training course in the workplace. In addition to CPR, this course offers valuable information and skills to the first aider so that he/she will be effective until EMS arrives.

 

Students gain a comprehensive level of first aid assessment and treatment skills based on long accepted treatments practices using the tools they are likely to have in a typical workplace first aid kit.

Course Outline:

 

  • Basic structure and function of the airway / respiratory system
  • Airway emergencies (choking)
  • Artificial respiration (HCP)
  • Special considerations
  • Basic structure and function of the circulatory system
  • Signs & symptoms and first aid for cardiovascular emergencies, angina / heart attack AND TIA / stroke
  • Risk factors of cardiovascular disease
  • CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation)
  • Two-Rescuer CPR (HCP)
  • Recovery position
  • AED (Automated External Defibrillation)
  • Severe external bleeding
  • Amputations and care for amputated tissue
  • Internal bleeding / Shock Unconsciousness / Fainting
  • Principles of secondary assessment using SAMPLE, vital signs & head-to-toe exam
  • Drowning, Hyperventilation, Asthma, Anaphylactic Reaction, Inhalation and Chest Injuries
  • Head, spine and pelvic injuries (including rollovers, immobilization)
  • Closed and open wounds
  • Bleeding from scalp and ears
  • Eye, mouth and nose injuries
  • Thermal injuries (burns)
  • Chemical and electrical injuries
  • Poisons, bites and stings
  • Bone and joint injuries of upper and lower extremities
  • First aid kits – contents incl. barrier devices

Emergency First Aid


This one day course serves as an introduction to First Aid concentrating primarily on CPR skills, controlling bleeding, treating shock and secondary assessment

Child-Infant Standard First Aid

Anyone who works with or has a role as a caregiver or a parent/grandparent of children and infants will gain great piece of mind and improved knowledge from this course..

This course is similar to Standard First Aid in that it covers many of the same topics. The focus of the Child Care course is to provide specific first aid training for children, such as infant and child CPR.

CPR Level "C"

Child Infant & Adult

 

This is a comprehensive 5 hour course that will increase your knowledge and confidence level to perform CPR on adults, children and infants in any emergency.

 

 

Course Outline:
- Risk factors for health disease; knowing which factors you can/cannot prevent
- Identifying the key signs and symptoms of sudden cardiac arrest
- Knowing the steps to perform one and two rescuer CPR on an adult
- Knowing the steps to perform CPR on an infant or a child
