Ice Water Rescue

AWARENESS LEVEL 1
For those who may need to act as First Responders to an ice water emergency where they will be assisting with the rescue but not the key active participants orchestrating the rescue.

Duration: 1 Day
Cost: $225+HST
Prerequisite: Nil

Designed for emergency services personnel, this one-day Awareness level classroom program provides an overview of the problems associated with ice rescue and cold water survival. Topics include safety and common fatal mistakes, ice rescue equipment, types and strengths of ice, shore based rescue techniques, hypothermia and cold water near-drowning,

The Ice Water Rescue Awareness Course is specifically designed for Public Safety and Rescue Professionals, including Law Enforcement, Fire, Rescue, and EMS Personnel. This course is designed as a foundational course for all public safety and rescue professionals. The focus of this 8-hour training program is on surface rescue for cold water and ice incidents with an emphasis on personal survival and safety of the rescuer. It is designed to provide the public safety and rescue professional with the knowledge necessary to safely assist in rescue and recovery operations in, on and around ice and cold water.

The course consists of a1Day classroom session and written examination.

Ice Water Rescue

OPERATIONS LEVEL 1 & 2
For those who will be responding to an ice water emergency with flat ice conditions where they will be actively involved with the rescue. (NOT TO INVOLVE MOVING ICE CONDITIONS Ie. Rivers)

Duration: 2 Day
Cost: $415+HST
Prerequisite: Nil

This program is devoted to the development of skills necessary to handle ice rescue and cold water near-drowning emergencies. This two-day in-water program includes extensive coverage of ice characteristics, pre-planning and rescue team development, safety and self-rescue, shore-based, ice-based, and device-assisted rescue techniques, accessing and extricating the victim, and medical considerations. this course meets NFPA 1006 Operations Standards. Participants will be able to safely and efficiently conduct rescue operations through assessing water and ice conditions in terms of hazards to the victim and rescuer.

The Ice Water Rescue Operations Course is specifically designed for Public Safety and Rescue Professionals, including Law Enforcement, Fire, Rescue, and EMS Personnel. The focus of this 16-hour training program is on surface rescue for cold water and ice incidents with an emphasis on personal survival and safety of the rescuer. It is designed to provide the public safety and rescue professional with the knowledge necessary to safely operate in rescue and recovery operations in, on and around ice and cold water.

For those who will be responding to an ice water emergency's with moving ice conditions where they will be actively involved with the rescue.

Working Safely On Ice & Around Frozen Bodies Of Water



Duration: 1-2 Days
Cost: $140+HST
Prerequisite: Nil


This program will teach students how to identify different types of ice, determine ice thickness, recognize weak and strong ice, calculate the load bearing capacity, respond if you fall through the ice and develop safe operating habits.

In addition to the above topics students will learn how to effectively respond to and treat Near Drowning Incidents, Treat Hypothermia and the risks associated with cold water immersion.

This course is a combined theory and practical on Ice course
